In our last visit here in Philippines, it was rice planting season .This time it is the harvest season. I went to Madrid by myself because Tom did not want to come back, mainly because of the absence of KFC there..hehehe
I guess from planting to harvesting the Filipinos still do manual labor.
Farm works is always enjoyable if done side by side especially with someone who is always fun
to be with.
This guy is hired to pick up the bundle of rice straws...
and stacked it to be ready for the thresher team.
The thresher team
A very dusty job
These 3 boys were picking up the left overs ..
This is the left over.
There are really many who pick up left overs. In our dialect to pick up is called "hagdaw". These boys are called "manhagdaway". I went back home after I took pictures to help to prepare the food for the thresher team. When we come back here in the farm, these 3 boys were already cleaning the rice straws they've picked. Too bad I did not have my camera with me and the boys was able to clean about 15 lbs of rice either to eat or to sell. This is the last area in our rice farm that was harvested and it produces 45 sacks of rice.
These guys were drying the rice. I think it will take 2 days ( if it's really really hot) to sun dry the rice before it is ready to mill.
Mona, that looks like a lot of work for rice. I think we take it for granted here. We just run to the store and grab a bag without thinking about all the hard work it took to get there!
ReplyDeleteAnd you say they have a KFC in Philippeans? Ok, maybe I can come visit there! :)
